The biggest advantage of UDIMs is texture resolution. Instead of forcing an entire asset into a single 0–1 UV space (and shrinking shells until detail is lost), UDIMs let you spread UVs across multiple tiles so each part can keep meaningful texel density. With more UV space available, you can allocate resolution where it matters—hero surfaces, decals, and areas that need crisp close-up detail—without compromising the entire asset. This is especially useful on complex models where a single tile would require aggressive downscaling to avoid overlaps.
As a secondary benefit, UDIMs naturally keep layouts clearer (each section has its own space), which can make baking, painting, and troubleshooting easier—but the core win is preserving detail through higher effective resolution.
